Welcome to Grow Your Blog 2014!
I have been married for forty years to my sweet heart of a hubby. We have three children and five grandchildren and one pup who is really our fourth child. She is an Australian Shepherd named Maddie.
I enjoy making/designing my own patterns. It is rare for me to make a quilt just as the pattern says. That is true for clothes and crafty things as well.
Well I hope you have enjoyed your few moments here. I have a little give-away. Just leave me a little note sharing when you started quilting, or sewing. I will have a drawing on the 31st. Since I can't get my pictures to load it will be a surprise. Will it be a book, or fabric or both? I hope you will join me by following along but the give-away is open to all.
A big Thank You! to Vicki at 2 Bags Full for putting this on. http://vicki-2bagsfull.blogspot.com/2013/10/grow-your-blog-2014-this-is-official.html
Until next time,
Susan
Susan, I've been following you for awhile and enjoy your blog post! I started sewing garments in high school, that evolved into sewing crafts. I started getting interested in quilting around 1997 before my first son was born in 1998. After that there was no time for sewing or quilting. Now that my sons are young teenagers I have gotten back to sewing/quilting in the last couple of years. Thanks for the giveaway offer!
ReplyDeleteHi, Susan ... I made my first quilt for my first baby to be over 30 years ago without a clue. When my youngest was leaving to go to college, about nine years ago, I decided she had to have a quilt. I bought a how-to-quilt magazine and finally learned to quilt. Surprises are always fun ... :) Pat
ReplyDeleteHi Susan
ReplyDeleteI love surprises!!
I started sewing when I was 8 but didn't make my first quilt until I was 40!!
I started sewing in Home Ec class in 7th grade. I didn't start to quilt until I was about 35 ish. I have taken several breaks in sewing/quilting but am now back with it again.
ReplyDeleteGood morning and welcome to GYB, Susan... I am one of Vicki's "volunteers" sent to meet and greet. I've sewed/quilted off and on for many years (more off lately, health issues, long story), and I would love to revisit again soon. That tote swap looked like fun! Looking forward to seeing more of your scrappy adventures!
ReplyDeleteTechnology can be frustrating at times. I follow you and enjoy your posts. Thanks for the giveaway chance.
ReplyDeleteSusan, you certainly seem like a lovely person and I'm glad I found your blog today! I'm a new blogger partying with all the rest in Vicki's Grow Your Blog party today. Kudos to you for hanging in there with the same man for 40 years! Its been almost 33 for me so you have a few years on me. I learned to sew when I was about 9 yrs old, from a small rag doll kit. For many years I made a lot of my own clothes and home decor, and did a little quilting. I once made a cathedral window quilted handbag, only to have it stolen from a laundry mat! Please come see me at TheCranesNest.com
ReplyDeleteI started sewing when I was little, like 5 or 6, but handstitching ornaments not machine stuff. My DH and I just started taking a sewing class together so we could use the machines I inherited. :) Be sure to stop by my blog to join in my giveaway too! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Susan! I am not a quilter, but I admire those who are. My mom and aunts were hand quilters, so I know how much work goes into this craft. Your work is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteSusan I no longer sew garments. I can buy clothes so much cheaper so I basically quilt and now I have ventured into beading. I started quilting eight years ago and I have not stopped though I have slowed down quite a bit since I am finding that beading gives me faster results. I hope you get a lot of new visitors during the hop. I already follow with bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteI'm visiting from the Grow Your Blog party. It is nice to meet you. I wish I knew how to quilt, but I am into papercrafting. Congrats on being married for 40 years - wow! I plan to look around a bit more and then be on my way to visit the others. I do hope you will stop by for a visit and enter my giveaway. Have a wonderful weekend! Hugs – Donna
I started in 2007, but put in down and just started again last year
ReplyDeleteI am a follower and although I wouldn't call myself a quilter, I do love to sew!
ReplyDeleteHello Susan! I started sewing at the age of nine....made my first quilt (a doll quilt) at 13...I began making bigger quilts in the 80's.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan! I started sewing when I was a little girl. My mama taught me to hand sew doll clothes, and then to piece quilts tops with her.

I started quilting about a year ago, but I started sewing when I was 8. My mother also loved to sew.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, it was fun to stop by, and I always cherish finding a sister in Christ in Blogland! I started doing very simple sewing when my husband & I started our life together as a means of being able to afford things better. I would love to take part in your giveaway, and I would also love to follow you so I can pop in a bit more often. Perhaps at some stage you may have time to pop in to one if my blogs too..... www.the7pillarshome.blogspot.com or. www.countryfragrance.blogspot.com

I started sewing a few years ago with my old Singer.
Surprises are nice!!! I guess that I have been quilting since I was in my 20's... I have come a long way since then and it has become my passion! Sometimes I wish that I didn't have to work and could quilt!! Unfortunately I have a long way to go before retirement.
ReplyDeleteHi, Susan. Found you through the Grow Your Blog party. I dabble at quilting. But scrap booking and photography are my loves right now. Forty years to the same man-awesome!! I am working on 30. I plan to be back and hope you would visit me!
ReplyDeleteHello! I'm a quilter and I started sewing at age 4! I talk a little bit about that in my blog hop post. I'm having a giveaway too so please stop by and say hi! Nice to "meet" you! Cheery wave from Bev
ReplyDeleteI did some sewing already as a child, I made doll clothes. When I was 16 years I had to move from home to go to school in another town and live on my own. Then my father bought me my first sewing machine, I guess they thought it would be good for me to have something to be occupied with, and don't stay out all night :) Quilting I started with in 1980, started with logcabin.
ReplyDeleteI follow you through Bloglovin and I love surprises! I made my first quilt during my second year of university as a wedding gift for a friend. I haven't looked back since.
ReplyDeleteSurprises are great, so no problem with no photos. I follow through Bloglovin' and it's nice to get to know you a little better. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHi, new follower here. I learned to sew a straight line about 8 years ago. I still have a lot of trouble with making clothes and understanding patterns I can make pj bottoms with an elastic waist forget the fly thoughcan't seem to master that, but..I love, love, love to make quilts.
ReplyDeleteI've been a happy follower for a bit via gfc! :) I started sewing as a child at the ripe old age of 4! My grandmother taught me! :)
ReplyDeleteHello Susan - visiting from Down Under via the GYBP. Nice to meet you. I started sewing as a child of about 5 or maybe 6, and quilting in 1988.
ReplyDeleteI started sewing when I was a child. My mom showed me how to cross-stitch, crochet, knit, and quilt too! Only some crude sewing skills and cross-stitch stuck with me!
ReplyDeleteI started sewing when I was in high school in a home ec class. But quilting 20+ years ago after taking a class. It's been so fun meeting new friends trough the GYB hop.
ReplyDeleteI don't actually know when I first started to quilt. I think I was in my late twentys. But I have been sewing every since I was 5 years old. I made doll clothes for a while and then I made an apron for my aunt on my mom's old treadle machine. Thank you for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI started sewing when I was in high school. Then started quilting about 20 years later. Still love them both.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember when I started quilting but I quilt for warmth...give family and friends some handmade love to sleep under. Although, my sister hung her quilt on the wall but that's okay too. I'm visiting via Vicki's GYBP and enjoying your post...from another Christian woman.
ReplyDeleteHello, it is nice to meet you through the GYB hop. I have always wanted to learn to quilt.
ReplyDeleteHi, so nice to meet you through your blog. Thanks for sharing a part of your life. Love your quilts. Happy hopping!
ReplyDeleteHello and nice to meet you! As you see I'm still working my way through the GYB party list! I started sewing in 2010 when my mum taught me to use a machine. I made my first quilt 2 years ago for my brand new nephew.
ReplyDeleteI started quilting in 1990, after we moved into our first house. I was shopping in the next town over, when I passed a quilt shop and admired all the beautiful quilts, patterns and fabric. I couldn't afford any of the quilts, so I borrowed my mother old sewing machine and bought a block pattern and some fabric. I've made many quilts over the years, I still haven't made a quilt for our bed yet. We always have a dog in our bed and I don't want to ruin a quilt. I love quilting! I can't get enough thread or fabric. ;->
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your blog. I'm still trying to make the rounds on the Grow Your Blog! Please stop by & visit my embroidery blog if you have time.

Hi Susan, nice to meet you. You had me at "scrappy". I started sewing as soon as my legs were long enough to reach the foot pedal on my mom an grandmas sewing machines. I loved to make Barbie doll clothes. Fabric, buttons, and patterns would keep me entertained for hours. I dabbled in quilting after getting married in the 90s but I had my cross stitching, sewing and college to focus on. So I really did not focus on learning quilting until about 4 years ago. Right now I'm enjoying quilting on the LQS longarm that they rent out. I have been practicing on community service quilts for my quilt guild. I look forward to following your blog. Have a fabulous day!
ReplyDeleteHello, Susan. I like surprises. I began sewing at age 8 and quilting in 1986. LOL - a long time now and I love it. Nice to meet you via GYB.

ReplyDeleteGreetings from the Pacific Northwest. I started sewing when I was about seven years old. My mother was a great seamstress and taught me well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for extending the deadline. I didn't get to most of the blogs as I was sick and it took weeks to figure out what was wrong. I've been a follower for some time and love your blog. I started sewing over 50 years ago and quilting about thirty years ago and haven't stopped since.
ReplyDeleteHi from Texas! I started sewing very young as my Mom is a terrific sewist and taught me. I started quilting a couple years ago when my sister encouraged me from 1000 miles away to read Madame Samm's blog for Wantobe Quilters. I've really enjoyed reading blogs and piecing quilts ever since.
